What is osteopathy

Gentle treatment for burnout, ME/CFS and PTSD

Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a manual therapy that is based on the connection between the body’s structure and function. The body is seen as a whole where muscles, joints, connective tissue, nervous system and organs interact. When mobility or balance in the body is impaired, it can affect how we feel and function in everyday life.

An osteopath works with his hands to examine and treat the causes of pain and discomfort, rather than just relieving symptoms. The goal is to support the body’s own ability to heal and restore as good a function as possible.

How does an osteopathic treatment work?

At your first visit you can expect the following:

At the first visit, the treatment begins with a thorough review of your medical history, current complaints and life situation. This is followed by an examination where posture, mobility and body function are assessed.

To see exactly what is happening, you may need to remove some clothing (if you feel comfortable with it). This is usually only necessary on the first visit. For future visits, please wear loose-fitting and comfortable clothing if possible.

The treatment is always individually adapted and can consist of various manual techniques, such as soft tissue treatment, joint mobilization, stretching or more gentle techniques. The treatment is usually gentle and takes place in dialogue with you as a patient. If necessary, you can also get advice on exercises, ergonomics and lifestyle factors that can contribute to more sustainable well-being.

We try our best to help you understand your pain and the factors that influence it.

Osteopathic Treatment

What can you seek osteopathic treatment for?

Osteopathy can be helpful for many different types of complaints, both acute and long-term. Common reasons for seeking treatment are:

  • Back, neck and shoulder pain
  • Headaches and tension-related pain
  • Jaw issues
  • Sports injuries and strain problems
  • Pain in the hips, knees, feet or elbows
  • Stiffness and reduced mobility
  • Stress-related complaints and muscle tension
  • Recurrent or diffuse pain conditions

Osteopathic treatment can also be suitable for those who want to work preventively or improve your body function in everyday life or training.

People of all ages can be helped by osteopathic treatment, but Swedish law does not allow treatment of children under the age of eight.

Osteopathy is tax deductible via the health insurance contribution (friskvårdsbidrag).
